However, one day, a terrible drought struck the land and crops started failing. The villagers began to panic as their food supply dwindled.
In order to save his people, Chief Tukwaka embarked on a journey deep into the forest to seek help from the spirits. After days of searching, he came across a large cave where he met Nguanta, the guardian spirit of water.
Nguanta was impressed by Chief Tukwaka’s bravery and offered to help him by summoning rain to end the drought. However, there was one condition – every year during the rainy season, one villager must offer themselves as a sacrifice to Nguanta as gratitude for his help.
Tukwaka returned to his village with joy and shared what had happened with his people. Despite their fears, they agreed to uphold their end of the bargain in order to survive.
But one year, Chief Tukwaka’s own daughter was chosen as the sacrifice. He begged Nguanta to spare her life but it was too late – she had already been taken by the spirit snake.
Filled with grief and anger, Chief Tukwaka challenged Nguanta to mortal combat. They fought fiercely until finally, Tukwaka managed to defeat Nguanta and retrieve his daughter’s remains.
